Kahurangi National Park was only created in 1996, making it one of the newest national parks in New Zealand. Despite being a new park, it is fast becoming a popular destination for its scenic tramping and mountain biking tracks. Kahurangi also provides excellent kayaking, fishing and caving opportunities. It served as one of the many filming locations for the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.
