The Long Way Around Tour of Christchurch to Auckland (Part IV)

Spend a relaxing day along the beach, Waihi Beach is perfect for swimming and one of the safest surf beaches in New Zealand. Have a picnic, join a surf school, enjoy water based activities or simply lay in the sand and read a good book. 

Explore the nearby town of Waihi, starting with a trip to the historical Cornish Pumphouse, a relic of the original mine in Waihi. You can then follow Marthe Mine Pit Rim Walkway that starts in the Pumphouse. Looking for a laid back activity? Travel back in time with the historic Goldfields Railway and enjoy an old fashioned adventure as the train runs between Waihi to Waikino. When you get back in Waihi Beach, have a dinner at the award winning Porch Kitchen & Bar.

The best way to appreciate Auckland is to do an Auckland City Heritage Walk that highlights some of the city's historical areas. Art enthusiasts will love the Auckland Art Gallery located along the corner of Kitchener and Wellesley Street. You can then head over to Wynyard Quarter during lunch time and enjoy a good meal overlooking the North Wharf. If you're looking for some sand and surf, the nearby Piha Beach is your place to be. If you'd rather go shopping in the afternoon, a trip to Queen's Street is a must. Finally, end your day with an amazing view of the city as you dine at the Orbit in Sky Tower.
