Officially opened in 2001 by the Premier of Queensland, the Airlie Beach Lagoon sits in the centre of town and offers a safe option when the beach is swarming with marine stingers (usually from November to May). There's a children's pool as well as several shady areas if you want to get away from the sun. Admission is free, which makes it a popular place to enjoy a relaxing day both for locals and tourists.
