Hearts have melted over the course of flying over Heart Reef. Why? That's because the view on top is stunning, and perhaps the little coral itself is heart-shaped. Discovered in 1975 by an Air Whitsunday pilot, Heart Reef has long made itself famous in postcards for being just too picture-perfect. Many tour companies now offer satisfying trips over to the coral-infested sanctuary, with overwhelming views of Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet. No lodgings are available in Heart Reef, but if you're planning for a wedding proposal, slice up your plan to the pilot first, and book ahead in one of the many accomodations available in Airlie.
