40 Bushcamp Road Proston, Queensland 4613
The award-winning Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park, located 20 kilometres north of Proston, is a drawcard for anglers, campers, bird-watchers and water-sports enthusiasts. The dam was purpose-built in 1983 to provide a water supply to the Tarong Power Station. In recent years, under the careful direction of the former Wondai Shire Council and now the South Burnett Regional Council, it has been developed into a major regional recreation area where the fishing is excellent and amenities second to none.
Over 200,000 fingerlings are released annually into the dam, with main species being golden perch (yellowbelly), silver perch and Australian bass. Anglers like fishing here because all fishing methods work - from bait fishing for perch, cod and catfish in the snags along the rock walls, chasing bass in the main basin with shrimp and worm baits; the use of lures for both edge fishing and over the broad flats, and even deep-fly tactics. Lake Boondooma is considered one of the most consistent inland fishing spots in Queensland.
