Byron Bay is one of the best coastal towns in NSW and you’ll reach it around 2 hours into your drive. You’ll find plenty of amazing beaches to relax at here, and other popular activities include surfing, golfing, kayaking, biking, helicopter touring, hot air ballooning and exploring the surrounding hinterlands.
Located just a short drive south from Nambucca Heads, South West Rocks is a fantastic place to enjoy amazing coastal views alongside swimming and surfing. The Smoky Cape Lighthouse and the Trial Bay Gaol are two must-see attractions in this town. Love diving? The local Dive Centre also runs diving tours to Fish Rock, where you can swim with dolphins, turtles and even sharks!
Port Macquarie is a great place to stay if you want to combine the perks of a city with amazing ocean landscapes. You can make the most of the beaches, trek through the nearby forests and national parks or explore the shops, bars, restaurants and museums the town has to offer.
Crowdy Bay is a perfect stopping point along the Brisbane-Sydney route if you’re looking to camp out and connect with nature. Mountain vistas and ocean views come together here and at various times during the year, you can even see whales swimming off the coast!
Myall Lakes is one the gems of the NSW central coast and is ideal for camping and beach/lake activities like surfing, kayaking, boating and fishing. The beaches and the surrounding national park present many opportunities for fulfilling walks and treks, and the historic Sugarloaf Point Whitehouse is also worth a visit.
The Entrance is a popular holiday spot, just 1.5 hours north of Sydney. There is plenty to see and do here: hire a boat, catch a fish, watch pelican feeding or trek to one of the many lookouts in the area. In town, you can dine at a restaurant, visit shops and galleries and even play a game of giant chess!
